 Andrew Dixon of the Andrew Dixon Foundation:

Former professional baseball player in the United States for San Francisco Giants

Established baseball program in the primary schools in Jamaica in association with the Institute of Sports teaching baseball to students, teachers and coaches.

Provided International Coaching Certification clinic for physical education specialists in twenty-three (23) primary schools.

Fundamentals of baseball were offered to 500 summer camp participates at the Insports Summer Camp in July 2010.  The summer programs consisted of (1) hitting, (2) throwing, (3) running bases, and more.

The foundation provided summer camp participants with over $2,000 worth of training equipment.

In September 2010, partnered with the Institute of Sports to provide back to school supplies to hundred of students at Jamaica National Stadium which was donated by the foundations and foundation partners.

Five-day baseball clinic with Mike Toomey of Major League Baseball the Kansas City Royals, Mr. Ross Murphy, former professional baseball player and native Jamaican and myself.

Great Shape Inc. –SuperKids 2010, at the Sandals Grande in Ocho Rios were Andrew Dixon introduce baseball to students at Newstead Primary in St.Mary.

The Objective…

To create a national baseball program in Jamaica in primary schools and college institutions.

¨       Need #1: Establishment of a summer baseball league

¨       Need #2: Baseball Certification

¨       Need #3: Baseball clinics and workshops

The Opportunity…

Andrew Dixon Foundation with the endorsement of the Ministry of Education to implement a baseball program.

¨       Goal #1: Summer league to offer students an opportunity to play tournaments in the United States.

¨       Goal #2: Coaches certification program which allows them to successfully teach the sport to students to expand the sport through Jamaica.

¨       Goal #3: Baseball workshops and clinics to introduce baseball to primary schools and college and university level students.  High school students through baseball can obtain scholarships to attend college.

The Solution…

The foundation is requesting the endorsement and support of the Ministry of Education by allowing us the opportunity to present regional workshops, which will be followed by visits to selected schools

¨       Recommendation #1: Baseball clinic and workshop that will teach students (1) the stance and batting, (2) how to throw and grip the baseball, (3) how to pitch and catch the baseball, (4) proper way to run bases, and (5) rules and regulations of baseball.

¨       Recommendation #2: Certification programs taught by Major League Baseball coaches and current and/or former professional baseball players.

¨       Recommendation #3: Summer league allowing selected teams to travel to the United States to play baseball.  The league will be developed through the foundation, Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth baseball youth league.

¨       Recommendation #4: Baseball uniforms and supplies a necessity for the program is currently are not available however this can be resolved. With allowance of tax waivers and free importation securing the equipment and supplies is more feasible.

¨       Recommendation #5: To work and locate the best possible location or create a baseball field to hold baseball games that the public can come enjoy the games.
